Readers Theatre at Lunch

CARRBORO: Reader's Theatre at Lunch, the beloved play-reading series for and by older adults, returns to The ArtsCenter this fall with three new delectable productions from OdysseyStage Theatre. The acting company features twenty-six of the area's most experienced older actors. Charles M. Stern founded Readers Theatre at Lunch in order to offer a social occasion as well as a theatrical experience. Audiences bring a sack lunch to The ArtsCenter at 11:30 AM and visit with other theatre lovers. The show starts at 12:30 followed by an informal meet-and-greet with the artists. September 8, 9, 16, and 17: Mourning Glory by Rich Orloff takes a comedic look at the infatuations of a newly-widowed woman and her male companion. October 13, 14, 21, and 22: Paddy and the Mermaid by T. Crofton Croker adapted by Donna Latham. Paddy Fitzpatrick thinks he is on top of the world as he pulls a maiden from the sea and marries her. But the marriage is full of all the earthly challenges of life in a small Irish village. November 10, 11, 18, and 19: Victory by Shirley King is an intergenerational story filled with tears and laughter over the controversial issue of surrogate motherhood.
